At Buckeye Acre Farm, every horse begins a journey long before they ever meet their new family. What people don’t always see is the story behind each horse and the time that shapes them into the safe, honest, versatile, family trail horses we’re known for. We believe in taking the time to do things the right way, giving every horse the opportunity to learn, grow, and become the best version of itself. After all, what matters to you truly matters to us.
When a new horse steps off the trailer, we don’t rush anything. We swing a leg over, take a quiet ride, and begin to learn who they are. Every horse is different—it’s never the same from one horse to the next. Some need steady, consistent riding, while others benefit from a little time off to relax, reset, and simply be a horse. After a few weeks, we bring them back in, ride them again, and see exactly what they remember. That tells us who they are and how to help them become their best selves.
Excellence in Training
Most of our horses stay with us six months to two years, allowing us to fully evaluate and develop them at their own pace. If a horse stays with us closer to two years, it’s usually not because they need more training. More often, it’s because we’re keeping diversity in our barn— we may not have needed that particular color, breed, size, or type at the time. We believe that if you start with a good horse and a good mind, you’ll always end with a quality horse.
We also believe horses learn best through real-world experiences. That’s why we expose them to as much as possible—creeks, hills, trail rides, traffic, dogs, whips, jugs, tarps, trailer hauling, new places, cows, horses running, and so much more. Our goal is to produce horses that are confident, seasoned, and ready for whatever adventure lies ahead.
Because of the time, care, and training that goes into every horse, our horses normally start around $40,000 and go up from there. Every customer has different goals and a different budget, and we’re always happy to visit with you about what you’re looking for and help you find the right equine partner.
