Occasionally, one comes along that makes you understand exactly why they were given their name—and Fairy Tale is that kind of mare. A true babysitter with looks, training, experience, and heart to match, she is the kind that will slow down and take care of a beginner or child yet has enough training and ability for an experienced rider to enjoy. Add in her beautiful Bay Roan color, smooth comfortable gaits, and a personality that would rather follow you around than let you walk away, and Fairy Tale is one that is hard not to fall in love with. She is a 2021 model, 14.1-hand Bay Roan AQHR mare, and she truly is a Fairy Tale inside and out. We do not have a lot of mares come through our program, but boy, oh boy, when one like Fairy Tale comes along, she reminds us just how special a great mare can be. She is kind, quiet, dependable, and always seems to be thinking about taking care of the person on her back. Fairy Tale has done a little bit of everything. She has been part of a drill team, attended a local show, traveled miles of trails, ridden down state roads and tight country roads, and handled traffic without batting an eye. Ride her Western, English, bareback, or even bridle less—she simply goes along with whatever you ask of her. She has very good, smooth, comfortable gaits from the walk, trot, extended trot, and lope, making her the kind you can enjoy riding all day. She knows her leads, has a lead change, and transitions nicely through her gaits. Whether you want to enjoy a relaxed ride down the trail or take advantage of her training in the arena, Fairy Tale is willing and enjoyable. One of our favorite things about Fairy Tale is the way she adjusts to her rider. Put an experienced rider on her and she is enjoyable and willing but put a beginner or child on her and you can almost feel her slow down and start taking extra care of them. She absolutely loves children, people, and all the attention you are willing to give her. That kind of natural babysitter mindset is something you just cannot train into every horse. Her personality may be just as special as her riding ability. Fairy Tale loves being with her people and will even follow you wherever you go without having to lead her. Walk through the barn or pasture and do not be surprised to find Fairy Tale right there beside you, simply wanting to be part of whatever you are doing. Out on the trails, Fairy Tale is dependable and willing. She has traveled through open fields, woods, water, mud, and creeks, stepped over logs, and gone up and down hills. Point her where you want to go and she is willing to take you there. Ride her out alone or take her with a group; front, middle, or back, she is happy just being your partner and enjoying the ride. Fairy Tale is also good with tarps, jugs, and whips. She will stand on the pedestal and even lays down. Around the barn, she is a true lady and an absolute princess in her stall. She loves being groomed, enjoys all the scratches you can give her, and is good to tack and in the wash bay. Turn her out in the pasture and she is just as enjoyable, often being the first one to meet you at the gate. She is truly a Fairy Tale inside and out and could not be more fitting of her name. We could probably write a book about everything we enjoy about this mare, but at some point, we just have to stop!
